10 Easy Remedies That Can Cure Your Headache Fast
Many people still rely on drugs to solve your headaches and migraines. Increasingly, though it has little or no impact on the severity or frequency of the problem. Thats why people more and more people are turning to natural remedies and see fast results. Try these 10 easy tips and make a change in your life.
1. Drink a Large Glass of Water. This might sound too easy, but it works more often than you might think. Dehydration is one of the most common causes of headache and migraine, especially in hot weather, so a glass of cool, clear water might be all you need to relieve that headache.
2. A Massage. Massages are well known to relieve stress and tension, and a firm massage of the head, face and neck can quickly ease that headache pain.
3. Aromatherapy. Over the last few years this has become a well known headache treatment. Some of the most popular scents are: sandlewood, peppermint, eucalyptus and lavender and these can be used to reduce, if not completely eliminate, pain and can be found in oils, candles, and even soaps.
4. A Hot Shower. Stand in the shower, try to relax as much as you can, and allow the hot water to flow down your neck and back. This should help to loosen your muscles and increase your blood flow. You could also try some of that aromatherapy soap mentioned in the previous point.
5. Cold compress. Firstly find something cold such as an ice pack, a damp towel that has been left in the freezer for a while or a bag of frozen peas. Carefully and gently apply this to the back of your neck or area of the pain and leave there for about 5 to 10 minutes. If the cold is too intense then you can wrap the cold item in a towel first. This should help to numb the pain and also reduce any inflammed tissues. Many people find this on of the best cures for headaches.
6. Acupressure. This is a remedy used extensively in the Far East and one which is becoming very popular in the West. An easy one to try is to massage the area between the thumb and index finger for a few minutes.
7. Relaxing & Resting. Sometimes a headache is just one way of your body telling you that you've been pushing yourself too hard and you need to take it easy for a while. A good way to start this is to lie down in a dark room, close your eyes, and try and relax for a while. If this is successful then you need to take a long hard look at your life and look for ways to reduce the everyday stresses that probably caused the problem in the first place.
8. Diet. A very common cause of headaches is food. Try and see if certain kinds of food are often followed by headaches and if so try to drop these foods from your diet for a while and monitor your body's reaction. It could also be a particular ingredient of foods that is a cause, so look out for these as well.
9. Diary. If you are serious about cutting out those headaches then a headache diary can be really good, where you monitor everything you do during the day: amount of sleep, food you eat, watching TV, reading (maybe you need glasses), computer work, driving, etc
10. Exercise. This is more of a preventative solution rather than a relief. It has been shown that regular exercise increases bloodflow through the body and so increases the amount of oxygen getting to the brain which seems to reduce the onset and incidence of headaches. The Chinese exercises of Tai Chi and Qigong (Chi Gong) are particularly effective if practised regularly.
